2009 ESCORTED WRECK SAFARI'S

copied imitated but never bettered the original wreck hunter and my trusty dive team continue to lead the way in discovery exploration and identification in the RED SEA. Others can only search for what we have already found-join our wreck hunting trips in 2009 and learn from the experts how its done- become part of the team-new discoveries still await us

*THE EAST STAR

The story goes she arrived at Safaga with a cargo of luxury goods, has a 100% duty stamped on them. The owner couldn't pay. She lay at anchor until locals decided to help themselves. We found her on her side, sea cocks open....

"Clark Chapman, Gateshead England" was a clue to her identity-the serial numbers from her winches told us they were from the OM SABER. Dead end! she was scrapped so the winches must have been recycled, so is it the EAST STAR, well according to records she was scrapped too, well we'll just have to go back and look for more clues JOIN US IN 2009

TRAWLER WRECK

Lying off the stern of the Minesweeper wreck in 30 mtrs its a great add on to an already great dive, just wait till the fish find out...............

"EL TOR EL ARISH"

We found this wreck some time ago and had hoped to officially raise the bell, until someone tried to steal it. Thanks to my intel he was caught red handed and bent! Here's what one "expert" has to say about our find..........

ASHLEY MIDDLETON aka NED MIDDLETON;
http://warsailors.com/forum/read.php?1,26780,26895#msg-26895

Hello Ron

”This is not the first time I have come across these two names associated with the Red Sea. One particular source appears to be either inventing ships names or is in possession of the world's first dyslexic computer. I have previously searched for the "Tor El Arish" and found no evidence to suggest a ship of this name ever existed”

MS El-Tor

Built 1981 A/S Bergens, Norway. Dimensions 105 x 17.3 x 4.12, 4609tons,12 Cyl Diesel - 6620 kW

2 controllable pitch props, Twin thrust props forward

3 decks, 19 Knots, 1025 Passengers, 328 berths, 150 cars

IMO:   7719820,1981 - Delivered to Misr EDCO Shipping, Alexandria, Egypt

1991 - Renamed El-ARISH-EL-TOR, 1999 - Sold to Sayed Nasr Navigation Lines, Cairo, Egypt. Renamed EL-ARISH

In November 2006, The Red Sea Wreck Academy and members of Bromley and Brighton branches located the wreck with PC.

once again it would appear that old neddy got it wrrroooonnnnggg again!

and the owner, Mr Nasr Said wants me to raise her......wouldn't the armchair gossip mongers   just love that.......

AND NOW

TO DISPEL ALL THE RUMOURS ABOUT A "WRECK NORTH OF THE THISTLEGORM", no its not the "S.S.HURRIET".....

ENGINE ROOM                                   GALLEY         COMPASS        SALOON                                              MAST LAMP                       ENGINE HOUSE

This is the latest  of our discoveries, a wreck of world class status.

YOU WONT FIND DETAILS OF HER IN ANY BOOK-YET!

 Here are the basic facts.

Built Hull 1910, 310 ft long, general cargo steamship, similar to Rosalie Moller, double 'tween decks

Depth 24 to the sea bed, 10mtrs to the bridge, engine room in 16 mtrs.

Hull appears intact-initial report of being bombed may be false-second report suggests an internal explosion .Masts have been swept, some salvage has been carried out (cargo only)

Cargo includes coils of wire , tyres, vehicles(3), ordinance, rifles, raw materials

Superb marine life-small shoaling fish on the wreck, hunters on the surrounding seabed, covered in mussels and coral growth, unusual fan corals. More details will follow in DIVE then in EGYPTIAN SHIPWRECKS....SOOOOOON

oopppsssss!!!!! almost forgot she's the S.S TURKIA

SEE "DIVE" MAY 2008

more trips planned for 2009-yes we really do go all that way!!!!!

NEW ITINERARIES FOR 2009

ESCORTED TRIPS

SOUTHERN WRECKS

MARSA ALAM-ELPHINESTONE-ZABAGAD-FURY SHOALS RAS BANAS, SARENAKA, ABU GOSOON

“THERE ARE NO WRECKS IN THE SOUTH”-long may that myth continue-the southern Egyptian Red Sea is now very popular, and all the usual sites are visited by dozens of boats. We don’t do that .We dive the wrecks that don’t exist! Nine wreck dives, plus some great shark encounters and a couple of superb wall dives. Not an intense wreck week but a great itinerary and some fascinating wrecks.

RUSSIAN WRECK-MOMA CLASS SURVEILLANCE GATHERER ( yes a spy ship!!!!)

CHECK OUT THE MARCH  2006 ISSUE OF DIVE-those of you who have dived Zabagad with me will find the article on the Russian Wreck “interesting”

The all knowing John Bantin  has proclaimed this is nothing more than a fishing boat.......now where have we heard that fairy tale before..............

S.S. TURBO (the half wreck). We originally identified her as the Atlas-a case of mistaken identity-the full story of this amazing story was featured both in DIVE and H20. A superb wreck, if only the fore section was there

AL QAHER. One of 4 ex British Destroyers sold off in the 1950's The 320ft warship went down fighting-with shells still i the breech-perched on a rock, the stern overhangs allowing for an amazing swim along her keel. What a dive!

ABU SIAMMA (TRAWLER WRECK) this is a humble fishing boat, perhaps the "experts" were taken to the wrong wreck on the wrong island-I wonder why???????????? a straight forward trawler-Simon Rodgerson , Editor of DIVE voted this his dive of 2006.Deep and blue!

M.V. HAMADA. Since we discovered this "Giannis D of the south",  in 1996 she has broken in two and has become smothered in soft corals.Ever seen a fork lift truck underwater................

OTHER WRECKS INCLUDE  ; TUGBOAT,  SAILBOAT, ADAMANTIA K,  .

 SUEZ WRECKS

-ASHRAFI, RAS DIB, RAS SHUKIER, RAS GHARIB, GOBUL,

ROSALIE MOLLER, ABOUDY, SCALARIA, SHILLONG, BIRCHWOOOD, LAURA SECURITY, ZIETIEH, ELLIOT, ATTIKI, BAKR plus  a selection of unidentified wrecks

Despite the lack of depth of some of these wrecks(8-12mtrs) they have proved popular and exciting-at least 6 off the wrecks found so far are virginal-dived maybe only once, while others have been located, but not yet dived. As these wrecks lie to the north, in the Gulf of Suez the marine life is a real bonus to these pristine wrecks .I have purposely withheld information on many of these new finds thus keeping the names, histories, identities and locations for publication in a special booklet available only on these trips. This is a unique safari-we deliver what others can only talk about!

EXPLORATION WEEK

For those what want to be involved in locating new wrecks, and want to be the first to see a wreck never before dived. This is an itinerary which has produced no less than 12 new finds in only 2 expeditions! Some of you reading this will take pride in recalling diving the ZIETIEH, ABOUDY, ALASKA, ATTIKI, BIRCHWOOD etc. seeing them for the first time since their demise. Help unravel the identity of another 12-20  targets this year. Dates  FOR 2009 to be announced soon-MANY ARE ALREADY FULL more to be added please call.

ROSALIE MOLLER SPECIAL

An opportunity to fully explore this superb wreck-with highly detailed plans of the ship aiding the briefings, we will sit above the wreck for 3-4  days, and include several night dives. Ideal for extended range, rebreathers, trimix and decompression procedures. Twin sets / redundancy is a must!

SPORT EXTREME.COM.

It has come to my attention that a feature I wrote several years ago, concerning the identity of a wreck at Zabagad. In the feature I stated that we did not know what the wreck was ,(BUT WE DO NOW........)but it was similar to the MAIDAN, and as we had spent 7 years looking for the Maidan at Rocky I suggested that this may indeed be the Maidan. No claim of finding the Maidan was ever made, nor did I have any images of the wreck. the images which appear in the SPORT EXTREME FEATURE are totally incorrect and I have repeatedly asked for them to be removed.

As we now are certain the Maiden lies off Rocky Island the wreck at Zabagad ( not the Russian one) is almost certainly the TAIWAN which struck Rocky, came off then sank in deep water close to Zabagad Island.

So BOB WHORTON if you read this contact me!

Just a quick note regarding the trip last week . I would just like to put on record just how good the trip was.The crew of the boat were outstanding, and after many Red Sea liveaboards, I can honestly say that they were the best crew I have had! The diving was exactly what I would expect from a Peter Collings boat - excellent. All in all a great week.I look forward to booking again with you in the near future, and hope to try and get a week in Late March!

Kind regards and safe diving. Paul

Thanks for another great week – it’s good to be around such experienced divers and trying out new things

First let me thank you for another great weeks diving and some fantastic courses. I learnt so much see you for the Rosalie trip or sooner      Dave Owen

-------------

Hi Pete,

Thanks for a super week . I must congratulate you on your excellent dive briefs. They were very well presented. You have set a hard target for any one to match, never mind better. Good job you stuck to plan “A”. If you had changed to plan “B” we would all have been completely lost. But as Joan very well put it “ we were all on screen saver”. That’s why we had to keep asking you what was next.

It would appear that you own the Red Sea. Pick up any Diver mag or go to divernet.com and your name is there. It makes the reading all the more interesting having met the man behind the pen, or is that keyboard.

Once again thank you.      Paul Carrier.          Lowestoft Sub Aqua club

hello Peter,
I just wanted to thank you for a great weeks diving, i learnt so much about wrecks sites i have dived before, with my deepest and longest penetration of a wreck so far!, you have certainly turned me into a wreck junkie and the other new sites were brilliant i cant stop thinking about the week. I also wanted to say i enjoyed your company to and the way you accepted me and my ability with out any pre conceived ideas about my disability it was refreshing and a welcome change... i know this wont be the last time we dive together, i am planning for early next yr 2006. can you place me on your mailing list so i know which trips you are on and can plan accordingly. I hope to do my advance Nirox with you next time.So thanks for a great week wish you all the best for the future and have a happy xmas and happy wreck hunting.

regards
Jonathan (pegleg) Ramm

p.s the pics are great got then as screen saver !!!

Hi Peter,

Just a quick note to say thanks again for a fantastic week . As always, the briefings were spot on and the diving out of this world. Also, thanks for the instruction and for patiently going through the courses with me. I learnt a hell of a lot and feel more confident as a diver now and will be able to start putting all the theory into practice.

As for the next wreck hunt, Count me in!!. Let me know when you have dates sorted and I can book the time off work.
You supply the wrecks and I will supply more of the "Special" medicine you require.........;)
Thanks again Peter, best of luck with the new job and hopefully see you in Feb.

Peter,

Just a few lines to say thanks for a great trip last week. Although the Weather was against us you managed to get us Four Dives a day on superb sites. Your extensive Briefings and Guided Tours were enjoyed by all,you turned what could have been a disaster into an excellent trip. You were excellent company and thanks for putting up with us.We are planning a Trip to Chuk in 2007 and will get in touch with you
to organise this for us. Lastly thanks for sorting my problems out in trying to get our Rebreathers onto the Flight, We had run into a bureaucratic Nightmare when they refused to carry our Sofnalime, this would have jeopardised our Holiday, but you managed to sort this out for us by speaking to the Airline, I don’t know how you did it butthey took our Sofnalime and didn’t charge us for excess baggage!
This was appreciated as it wasn’t really your problem to sort out, so thanks again.
Please feel free to use this on your site, we have been very impressed by
your enthusiasm and patience and will definitely be back with you again.

"Hi Peter,

I would just like to start by saying Thank You very much for a wonderful week ,the guys and I really had an amazing time and have already been discussing a trip to the Brothers next June . Your knowledge of the sites was exceptional down to the positioning of nuts and bolts and this enabled the guys and me to really explore the wrecks and get the most from our dives.

let me reiterate I had an absolute ball on board the diving was out of this world and the wrecks were spectacular. I will be back for more there's no question about that. Peter stay in touch and I look forward to my crew and I seeing you next year for another very memorable trip!!" Paul, Ribit Dive Site Services.

Hi Peter,

What a brilliant week we had with you in the Red Sea.
We really enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to do it again. Brian and Yolanda Largo

  Hi Peter .

I would like to say a personal big thank you for all your hard work during our trip . I can't tell you how good it was to see every single person return from every one of the dives with a huge big grin . Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves   &  I don't think Claire has come down to earth yet . As for next years trip I am trying to get some firm numbers and dates & will definitely be in touch .             Regards  Alan Yearsley.RYLL SAC

----------------------------------------

To reiterate our sentiments about last week, it has been the BEST series dives either of us have undertaken. It was not just the fact that we were in the Red Sea with terrific weather and warm clear water, it was the fact that YOU made the week so very special.  Your knowledge about the area and the wrecks could have been memorized from local information but everyone  knows that your whole heart and soul is invested into each and every wreck you have dived, discovered and hopefully, yet to discover.  Your enthusiasm is boundless, and we all appreciated your resounding efforts.
You have spoilt both Sue and myself, as we will now only consider another Red Sea trip if you are the expedition leader, as far as we are concerned we have sampled the best.......I kindest regards from both Sue and myself, and thank you once again for a special week........

Ian & Sue Clayton Protec Drysuits

That was our ninth trip to the Red Sea and it was by far the best week of diving we've ever had there. We had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves  Thanks very much once again for allowing us to join you

Hi Peter,

Just a quick note to say thanks for the trip last week, we
didn't have a chance to say adios on the Sunday as I know you were busy expecting your family over for the week.It was fantastic and a real bonus to have you along to give some real interest to the wrecks and reefs we explored. I am sure Hazel and Adele's photography will benefit from being able to get low, tilt and shoot up! Please see below for my contact details in case you have anything special coming up, I'll also keep and eye on your website for interesting up and coming trips.

Once again thanks and best wishes.Richard

But I will confirm when delivery has been made. When you've had chance to look at dates we would like to put together another trip to Southern Red Sea as discussed. Thank you for both your expertise and enthusiasm last week. Despite the others all thinking you were a sad northern anorak with all your pictures of boats, trains and engines, I found you to be very personable, professional and excellent company. The dive briefs were honestly by far the most informative and best I have ever seen and your knowledge on the direction of currents is unbelievable !we both look forward to your company later in the year  Thanks again for everything        KEN GOWLER MSSD 608102
